Any recommendations for accommodation at ayers rock? Want something quite luxurious as it's my 50th birthday. Would rather go with a recommendation than trust to luck.

I was looking for a recommendation from someone that had actually stayed in one of the hotels and so could give a definitive testament to their quality rather than the PR hype but I thank you for taking the time to reply, Toureman.
I haven't been there since 2000 but the only decent hotel then was the Sails in the Desert. People I spoke to who stayed elsewhere were very disappointed.

I did look at that one and thought it looked nice - and they have spa pools outside each room which is a plus. Many thanks for the feedback Trum 48.

We stayed in the Emu Walks Apartments which were fine. We had one bedroom, a lounge and kitchen. The food in the restaurant was good and cheaper than the Sails. Having the kitchen allowed us to get our own breakfast and prepare sanwiches for lunch when we were out.

Wherever you stay it will be expensive compared to hotels of similar standards elsewhere.

You don't say when you will be going but be aware that at some times of year the flies are awful.

Thanks for that Cathyhuns. There is flexibility in an apartment and you are right about the cost - massively inflated compared with the rest of Oz but they do have a captive audience and we either pay what they ask or don't go! We are going in May (can't move my birthday!) so I'm guessing the flies won't be too bad. Thanks to everyone for their feedback.
