Why has Bombay suddenly become Mumbai?

It was the original name before us occidentals decided the rest of the world should spell things our way. Theres lots out there that quite rightly think slightly differently to us.
The answer is correct I just don't think we should forever keep apologising for what our forebears did. It happened. Get over it. I don't care what any country etc calls itself its the grovelling apologies that get to me. We don't bleat on about being invaded by most of Europe and still using the names that those invaders gave our towns and cities.

Maybe I phrased my answer wrong.I don't think I was being an apologist for our ancestors.What I meant was that if one has conquered a country and occupy it, why not have the place names to fit ones' language. When they achieve independence they can do what they want. We keep our various place names for convenience which adds to our rich and fine heritage.
