Does anybody know in which year the steam locomotive "The Flying Scotsman" set a record of 8hrs 3 mins for the London/Edinburgh journey, please?

All the sites I've googled have conflicting times and years.

Would be very grateful to receive some help on this one please.

The National Rail Museum ought to know. They give the year as 1928 in this worksheet from their education service:
http://www.nrm.org.uk/education/documents/NRM% 20NL%20flying%20scotsman.pdf

That date is consistent with the information on their main web pages, dedicated to the Flying Scotsman, which confirm that non-stop running between London & Edinburgh commenced in that year.

8hrs and 3 mins seems an awful long time to get from London to Edinburgh. Are you sure this is a record? Mallard holds the record of the fastest speed of a steam engine, something like 126mph. It wouldn't take long to get from London to Edinburgh at that speed!

Thank you very much Buenchico. I had googled many pages re FS but not found that definite statement, although i had read much of 'Grandad's reminiscences'.

spudqueen - the question was not, 'what is the record for the L/E journey, but 'when did the FS set the record at that particular time'. Thank you for making sure I had the correct question/answer.
126mph was for a short sprint, downhill, on straight track. No way could Mallard keep that up for long, uphill, round curves or even on the flat.
In fact Mallards driver knew he had to back off as he could smell the wheel bearings over heating. I think I'm right in saying that Mallard then had a complete overhaul lasting a couple of months to repair the damage done by the record.
