The same applies to man-made things - the tallest building has just been completed in Taiwan; the longest bridge is in Japan; Bologna often claims to have the world's oldest university, but there are other contenders in the Middle East; I found a website claiming that Portobello Road (London) is the world's largest antiques market, but I suspect that would be contested by flea markets in France or Italy, not to mention the USA. America also claims the world's biggest ball of twine (Minnesota) and biggest catsup/ketchup bottle (Illinoia).
Isn't the Greenwich dome the largest single room in the world? And I'm sure that the cathedrals of Europe must hold some records (e.g. St Peter's being the largest and Cologne being the tallest - or is it Ulm?). And I think the Eiffel Tower is the tallest iron structure in the world. Windsor Castle is the largest inhabited one in the world. There must be more...
