Any suggestions for a memorable trip in June?
12 Answers
We celebrate 25 years of married bliss(!) in June. I've booked the 7 days leave but we cant decide where to go. We've considered a Nile cruise but the June itinerary looks as if it suffers from dam closures.
Any suggestions for a memorable week - not sitting on a beach but seeing and doing wonderful things - would be very gratefully received.

It easily the most beautiful place that I have ever been to, and I;m talking as someone who didn;t want to go. I took my mum last year for her xmas present and I was totally blown away, the Italians are very passionate people and you can;t help to feel the same way. The other good thing is that everything is central, and you can get very efficient, clean and reasonably cheap trains to other places in Europe if you wish to. But there is enough in Venice to keep you occupied. Have a look on the internet, you won't be dissappointed. There is a lot of walking though, a good excuse for an early night..........

How about a mediterranean cruise.Visit beautiful cities see lots of sites.Do as little or as much as you like.
Been on three cruises so far and each one was magic in its own way.
As an example look at this
http://google.cruisedeals.co.uk/deals/details. jsp?dealId=46381
Once in the different ports you will have the chance of several different excursions to see the sites
Shop around as prices can vary greatly

Istanbul is also beautiful, like Venice, but both can get pretty warm by June (and Egypt very hot). Could be a nice time to do a Norwegian coastal voyage, or a cruise on Europe's rivers - say one of those ones that includes Vienna, Prague and Budapest

again, shop around for prices as there are often special offers available for cruising

I did have a very memorable time on Corsica two years ago.
This island is great for walking, sightseeing and diving.
And the weather in June in generally good.
Before that I had memorable times in Cornwall (my favourite part of England), Istanbul (a whole new world), Greece (love all the historic sights), Holland (great for cycling, very friendly people and lots to see, too) and Italy (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that country, especially the north of it and Rome).
Basically, if you want to and put your mind to it, you can have a memorable time anyway!
Good luck!

safaris are wonderful but note that those in Botswana are the most expensive of the lot - the country wants few but wealthy tourists (not a bad policy as it lessens crowding for people and stress for the animals) and quality, and charges, are high. It is worth it but you might find less costly options in other countries. If so try to avoid the rainy season when bushes grow and hide the animals; best is the end of the dry seasons, when they're more easily spotted and have to come out to waterholes to drink.
Cheaper safaris are available in South Africa and Kenya; a range of accommodations is available (all of it acceptable); you'll see quite a lot of other tourists on the Masai Mara or Kruger Park but you'll see plenty of animals too.
I've been cruising a couple of times on the Ocean Village, which does the Mediterranean in summer (Caribbean in winter) and enjoyed it: it sails at night and moors by day so you can go sightseeing in places like Rome, Naples and Barcelona. Its sister ship in the eastern Med goes to Dubrovnik I think but I haven't been on it and can't comment. Anyway, they're really quite cheap and cheerful and tips and airfares are included in the price, which can make a substantial difference. The excursions can be expensive, though, and you can often arrange your own cheaper.

and scout around the 1st4cruising site for other more upmarket ships as well.
Getting away from cruises, I've also had some interesting trips with these people; they go to unusual places and are less expensive than most similar operators. (They're part of Kuoni.)
