I received an e-mail this morning re Mobile phones and contacting the Police Dispatcher directly with the No. 112. Apparently this saved a young girl from a convicted rapist driving around in an unmarked car with a red flashing light purporting to be an unmarked police car. Is this another urban myth or is there any truth in the incident?

112 is the emergency number - same as 999. The EU decided to standardise on having the same emergency number throughout the EU and chose 112 which was implemented a few years ago. UK keeps 999 running in parallel.
