I want to take my boyfriend away for a weekend city break for his birthday. My budget is a bit limited tho so would appreciate some help with bargain suggestions. Ideally I would prefer to go to amsterdam, but would be happy with other suggestions...even uk. Thanks, Em

Dublin is easy to get to and always good for a weekend. Similarly, Berlin, Hamburg and other places reached by Easyjet. I found Amsterdam disappointing and depressing

What about a weekend to Amsterdam on a boat. DFDS do a two nights on the ship from �34.00 return. OK, I know we are not talking QE2 here but the boats has bars, good rooms and our a laugh. Leave every other day from Newcastle.

How about Lille, in France lovely place good cheap accommodation, reachablevia the ferry from Dover to Calais (bring back loads of goodies too, wine beer, cheese, chocolate, pate.) Or Eurostar do cheap trips. Lille is a lovely historic town, with excellent food and wine.
