Florida for Christmas.........

Does anyone know how good or bad the Orlando area of Florida is over the Christmas and New Year holiday periods.....Due to be there with about 6 or 7 other people and not too bothered about 'Disney'......should we just confine ourselves to the poolside, sunshine and drinks or mix with actual Americans.

I went for the christmas period ten years ago,it was mixed weather,but warm enough to go to Typhoon Lagoon on Boxing Day(better than leftover turkey round your aunt mildreds) .On new years eve we went to Disneys Pleasure Island and it was easy the best new years eve party I have been to,eight clubs ..all differently themed...champagne,fireworks...it was a brilliant night,Blondie is playing there this year.So it might be worth doing the theme park thing for these special occasions.After new year we drove to Key West and stayed on Duvall St and just lazed on the beach,went sea fishing and eat great food....bliss....aaaahhhhhhh.

I got back from Florida(Orlando) on Sunday. The last time I was there was 12 years ago. I was amazed how much more expensive eating out has got. We went to a restaurant in the Disney village which was very reasonable before, but now costs $60(�40) for a very average meal for 2. If you go, try and eat at not so famous places (if you see what I mean). As for Americans themselves, you get used to them. The kids are rude (push their way into lifts, don't say thank you etc.) and some of the adults aren't much better, but on the whole they are normally excited to find out you are English. (This includes Scots, Welsh and Irish as they can't appreciate the difference!). Assuming you don't speak with a posh accent, you will probably be accused of being Australian!! Go and have fun though. BTW, don't know where you are getting your flights, but we flew with Northwest Airlines (www.nwa.com) Gatwick - San Diego and Orlando - Gatwick for �306(inc tax) each; very reasonable I thought.
