saris can range from 20 to 20,000 depending upon the fabric and the embellishments. I can safely say that it will be cheaper to buy in Dubai than in the UK whatever your budget. Go to an indian shop in an indian locality in Dubai. But whatever you buy it will be double the cost of say buying in India/pakistan or sri lanka
buy in the souk [ local market] not in one of the swish shopping malls, unless you take someone with you who can speak Urdu or Hindi you as a tourist will be charged a slightly higher price than a fellow Asian, thats what they call business. If offered chi[ tea] accept, the more they get to talk to you the lower the price will be.
forgot to add, when in the souk you must bargain with the shopkeeper, never accept the first price, offer half the asking price, you wont get it but you should reach a happy medium between the two. Another ploy is to walk out of the shop [slowly], the last thing the want to do is loose a potential customer, give in with "good grace" when they bid you return and then start the real haggling.Once you get the hang of it you will enjoy the bargaining, its only Brits who dont seem to be able to understand this ritual and pay the asking price and after you leave they laugh at your stupidity and are amazed you actually paid that much.
