Hi, diamondrocks!

We stayed at the Wellington Hotel http://www.wellingtonhotel.com/ in December. It's not amazing, but nice enough and was a good price (we were hardly ever there anyway). I think we booked our holiday as a package deal through www.lastminute.com

The best thing about the hotel is it's location, it's close by to everything (nearly). Macy's, Times Square, Broadway and Rockafeller Centre are just blocks away; as is Central Park. 5th Avenue is also just a short walk. http://www.wellingtonhotel.com/attractions_ny_ hotels.asp

We'd definitely go back there.

Hope you have a fab time! :o) x
Not a 4 or 5 star hotel, (why fork out that money if you're looking to go cheaply?) but a good hotel is the Milford Plaza. It is one block from Times Square, and about 10 minutes walk from Macys. Have a look at their website http://www.milfordplaza.com/index.html
It is not a posh hotel, but clean, comfortable and safe (they always check your hotel card before letting you into the lift area). You're probably not going to spend a lot of time there anyway.
The cheapest time of year for a flight is usually January. You'd be wise to pack your thermals though!
Hi
We stayed at The Edison just off Times Square, art deco style hotel..really nice
Manhatten island is @ 14 miles long so for some sights there may be some trekking to get to them but NYC is well worth it

Enjoy your trip
Cheapest time for rooms and flights is thanksgiving weekend, as that when most Americans are with their families and hotels are empty.
