as in -----'I name this ship...' One of the life rings on board ship seems to belong to the Quenn (sic) Mary. Cunard's latest passenger liner, which took over two years to build at St Nazaire, France, will be UK-registered and fly the British flag. Another major liner, the Queen Victoria, is currently under construction. what on earth does (sic) mean !

The 'sic' in your sentence is to denote that Quenn has intentionally been spelt that way.

Wildwood is right. It shows that the mis-spelling in the quotation was in the original. So showing that the writer of the first article was the careless one, not the quoter!
Earlier answers are fine. In explanation, 'sic' is the Latin word for 'thus' or 'in that way'. By using it, the writer is, indeed, making it plain that that's how it was presented in the original version.
It means 'thus' in Latin and is used to demonstrate that the author is aware of an original misspelling, e.g., "I was walking down the street and I slipped on some vommit (sic)."
