I am an english christian woman in love with an egyptian muslim man and I am flying over from England as I have been invited to visit his family home by his parents.

I would like to know what the family will expect of me with their customs etc and can I take his mother a present to that her for her hospitality

It may be an indication of nobody knowing the answer to your question that you have not yet had anyone reply - but more likely it is fear of transgressing PC codes. I will risk condemnation (from all sides) by giving a loose reply. The truth is that this depends very much on from which end of the very wide spectrum to be found in Egypt the family you are planning to visit comes. It would be surprising to me if your beloved cannot provide you with a full and perfect answer - if you feel unable to ask him then ask yourself why this is so (do not go or commit yourself in any way until you have a sober answer available). There are many very open minded Egyptian muslims who are very sophisticated in western terms. There are also a sizeable number who are good muslims (that is the term favoured, extremist is not one that is used regardless of the fervour), but the vast majority of the nation falls between the two.
