Anywhere central and reasonable to stay in either city for a couple of nights ?

if you are not adverse to youth hostels, there's one in Boston that is relatively central, or at least it is near the underground network. can't remember it's name but i stayed there and it was cheap and nice, and can probably be found on the internet or travel agency like STA travel.
