Hi,
I am currently reading a Time Travel novel set in New York called 'Time and Again' by Jack Finney. However, the protaganist keeps referring to the E1. Is this a New York rail network? I can't find any mention of it on the internet.
Thanks.

Maybe our American contributors (Clanad?, BBWCHATT?) will know better than me, but the only E1 I know of in New York is the street of that name, shown on this map:

e1 as you refer to chris means east or eastside.i would have thought even you could work that out.
Hope it's a good book magicbeatle - I've never heard of it but seeing as it's time travel (one of my favourite subjects) and New York (my favourite city) I've just ordered a copy!
the El, not the E1, is short for elevated railway - a train line that goes overhead. Popeye Doyle races around the pillars of one in The French Connection, as I recall. There's no longer one in New York but Chicago has one.
jno,that was well spotted

Fantastic! Thanks Jno, that is exactly it. The photo is excellent and is of around the time the novel is set. Spudqueen, the novel is good yes and I hope you enjoy it too.
Thanks Everyone!

Actually, looking at the photo again, it is around the 1920's while the novel is set in the 1880's. Still love it though!
