We are planning a trip to Paris later in the year and my husband wants to drive - has anyone any experinece of this? Is it best to go from Calais, and how long will the drive take? Does it then cost a fortune in toll road fees? We will be setting off from the East Mids. Thanks

It's perfectly possible to avoid the toll roads altogether (use the N1) though it does take a little longer - I'd guess around 6 hours from Calais. (Based on a dim memory of doing the trip 20 years ago)

Boulogne is a little nearer Paris and the ferry (Speedferries) normally cheaper
Calais to Paris is about 300km by Peage (A26-A1) so should be do-able in around 3 hours. The tolls are operated by SANEF, and the quote from their website is EUR27,80.
Is there a particular reason hubby wants to drive? Paris is a nightmare to drive round!(once you are there). It might be easier/quicker and possibly cheaper to 'train' down to London and get the Eurostar.
Further to my answer, I've been looking round websites. London - Paris return is about 59, Nottingham - London return is about 54, though you might be able to get both cheaper depending on advanced booking, time of travel etc.
on random dates in october, east mids to paris with bmibaby is 88 each return (including tax).
