phuket.. what's it like??

Hi

My Dad lives in Singapore, as a family me and hubby and 3 daughter usually spend 3 weeks over there, combining Singapore and Bali as our summer hols.

This year we are going to Le Meridien beach Resort in Phuket,

I am excited but apprehensive. I visited Thailand (Pattaya)in 1986 when I was 17, I had a blast, but not quite the place for little children.

Has anyone got any experience of this part of Thailand?
Is it comparative with Kuta in Bali??

Phuket is more commercial than Bali, and in the main nightspots there is more adult entertainment than Bali. There is plenty to do with kids though (obviously helps a lot if they like swimming!).

The Meridian is a nice hotel, stayed there a couple of times.
