Back in March I booked a holiday for myself and my partner with Barrhead Travel - the way in which this was booked was that I paid Bhead Travel to package everything together. As a result I paid a 50% deposit on the holiday (and in fact, paid the full amouth there and then). Since booking this holiday my partner and I have separated - leaving me with the holiday - which was fine.
I called Barrhead to ask what my options were in terms of cancelling the holiday - to which they informed me I'd lose the deposit (which I expected) but I could change the name on the booking. When I approached one of my good friends and presented her with the opportunity to come with me - she was delighted (especially as I was only going to take the name change charge which I thought would only be around 50)... however, when I called BT they informed that 'due to the nature of the booking' the only way they cuold change the name on the ticket was by cancelling the original booking and re-booking it at today's fare - which would be 300+... in all honesty I thought maybe there was a chance I would have to pay the difference between the airfare now and what it was when I booked it - but I didn't expect that I would have to pay the full flight again!!
Can someone give me some advice - the flight itself was booked (through Barrhead) with Thomsonfly.
Despite the fact that you have booked with Barrhead Travel why not try ringing ThomsonFly and see what their attitude is. I believe that Thomson Fly in their conditions will change the passengers name for 25 PLUS the difference between the cost of the flight when booked and the cost of the flight when you ring to make the alteration.
According to the ThomsonFly website, the fee for changing a name on a booking should be the difference between the current price of the flight and the original flight, plus 25: http://www.thomsonfly.com/en/flywithus_2821.ht ml
However, that wouldn't prevent Barrhead from adding on their own administration fee for contacting ThomsonFly and, if necessary, your hotel).
Try contacting ThomsonFly directly to check the situation with them:
