what's the quickest route...starting at Cardiff.. then to maybe Birmingham and or then Leicester.. Then back to Cardiff??

Cardiff - Bristol M4 & M32

Bristol - B'ham M5

B'ham - Leicester M5 M6 M69

Leicester - Cardiff M69 M6 M5 M50 A40 A449 M4

Best I can do with no details

Cardiff, M4 to the M4/M5 junction (there's no need to go into Bristol).
M5 to M5/M42 junction, south of Birmingham.
Depending which bit of Birmingham you are going to, you either stick on the M5 or go east on the M42 for anywhere S or E of the centre.
For Birmingham N or W stick onto the M5 til it joins the M6, then M6 south.
Having visited Birmingham, then M6 south as far as Coventry for M69 to Leicester.
