American student
My grandaughter has an American student staying with her, her passport was stamped at Heathrow with "not allowed to work etc" which is fine as she is an art student and has permission to stay for 6 months.During this time , at half term she would like to visit Italy to see the art works there, does she need a visa or does entry into UK entitle her to move around in Europe? also she would like to go home to Mom & Dad for xmas, will she be able to re-enter UK and finish her course ?

However a US citizen does not need a visa to visit a European country as a tourist for up to 90 days. So that will be no problem.
Sorry, don't know the answer to the reentering the UK after going home to the US question - which applies equally to reentering from Italy BTW. Depends under what terms she was admitted to the UK..
