I have recently booked a trip to New York for in two weeks time. I was unaware at the time of the US stance on convictions. 5 years ago I had my car smashed up, had to buy a new one and whilst await documentation, foolishly used the the tax disc from my old car in my new one and got caught. I was convicted of fraud even though I owned the disc. What would be my chances of being caught if I go over? I'm a gent travelling alone in my mid 30's does this make me more likely to be stopped? What';s the worst that could happen?

youre supposed to apply for a visa if any convictions but as said on here before many have used the visa waiver and no questions have been asked, they do not have access to UK criminal records.

The worst that could happen is you will be refused entry to the states and the airline that you fly with have a duty to fly you home.
of all the people entering the US I'm sure you're not top of their hit list.

How on earth would they know about this issue.

you'll be fine. tick the 'no' box on the visa waiver saying you haven't commited a crime of moral turpitude
I agree with Munchie...
I also agree with Munchie, they only have records of drug offences and serious crimes.
Do you have a beard? and or wear a turban?
