if you're a nicotine addicted alcoholic then apparently yes otherwise about the same. (not my opinion - my mate who lives there says this)
The major attraction of living in Spain - apart from the sun, the sea, the food, the people, and the absence of English people (!) was always the less expensive cost of living. Since the introduction of the Euro, expats, and regular tourists, of which i am one, have noticed the steady increase in the cost of living in Spain, until now it is roughly equal to here. That said, when ytou look at waht you get over there for the same money, it;s not hard to see why people are still shifting over there in droves.
I agree the cost of some purchases in Spain have gone up in the past few years, however in Spain if you live in the coastal resorts (live, as opposed to visit) some aspects of the cost of living can be on a par with the UK. Should you chose to live slightly inland then the difference is far greater. Daily shopping as a rough guide is 1/3 cheaper in Spain ie. 2 litres of Pepsi Lite in Spain is 99cents (approx 69p stirling) I hate to think how much that is in the UK now..at a guess 1.39ish??. The greatest difference is in things like fuel, car tax and council rates. The council rates on our 5 bedroomed town house are 80 (stirling) a year....... nuff said??
