Next door to the Novatel is my favourite steak House Gallaghers, so in the dead of winter, if I arrive early, I occasionally tell people to meet me upstairs at the Novatel, where I then take them next door. It has a good reputation. However, a warning..it IS in the midst of Times Square and you can encounter some extremely 'tasteful' characters as you leave and arrive the hotel.
Best of luck

There are 348 reviews of the New York Novotel here:

I've not stayed in the New York hotel, but my experience of the Novotel group is that their hotels are clean and efficient but bland and impersonal. (When I stayed in their Singapore hotel, I was looking forward to experiencing the restaurant. I assumed that the theme would either be French - because Novotel is French-owned - or South-East Asian. I was extremely surprised to find that the restaurant specialised in German food!).
