Also, I'm not saying you are in the same category as the ones who do come here, get all the benefits & grants going, without putting a penny into the system!
Smudge! That's too harsh. There are thousands of British people who have done the reverse, and fallen in love with an American and moved over there.
I think obtaining permanant residency or citizenship will be difficult unless you do marry him.
If you are in work, does your employer have British offices you could be transferred to?
Failing that, I believe you can come on a tourist Visa, and after 3 months, leave the country for a quick 'there and back' trip to Europe. To top yourself for another 3 months.
HI krazykelly
It is very difficult for a UK citizen to move to USA. My wife is Canadian and we went through the residency route and we got married. She was not allowed to work until after we were married and we had to pay again for more paperwork.
Living together "common law" was not an option available as she wouldn't be able to stay here for more than 6 months at a time on a visa.
You could come here as a visitor and see how things go before commiting yourself to marriage. It may be possible for you to come here on a work visa. You will need a sponsor.
Good Luck. I've been trying to sort it out for over a year now. I've had job offers - work permit applications - all declined. To come as a fiancee he has to prove he has enough money to support you for 6 months while you're not allowed to work, and somewhere for you both to live, but house prices here are astronomical. We've both just graduated from college (university) so this isn't an option for us. We want to get married, it's the only option left, but they won't let us do it in the UK. Next stop is Vegas. It's easiest if you marry there (US) and then come here. I don't mean to put you off. You'll love the UK, but everything English is bloody ******* awkward.
I have a question, more so than an answer. I'm married to a british citizen, but he resides currently with me in the U.S. We plan to come over to the uk to aid his elderly father in his last years, we will have money, and we wont be applying for aid. If we didnt want to settle in England, what sort of visa would i need? Multiple entry visa perhaps?
