i have the news on and of course the main story is the mayhem and chaos caused by the snow. well looking at the footage, the snow doesnt look that deep, not even a foot of it by the looks of it,not compared to the amount we used to get when i was a kid!!!

Im just wondering if the ampount we get these daays warrents the fuss we have everytime we get some.

I know places like Scotland get it bad but seriously, the stuff i just saw on the news is nothing and yet chaos reigns supreme.

Are we just a bunch of lightweights in this country these days, cant cope with a flurry of snow???.

someone tell me if you have more than a foot of the white stuff!

Hey! I agree with you. I remember winters of snow that lay on the ground for weeks. The schools did not shut and you were expected to attend unless you lived out of town.
at leats six eight inches I can remember as a kid and it appeared to be most years until the late 70's.
We were only talking the the day to try and remember the last substanstial snow fall we had on our area (mid midlands) Its been ages as the snow always appears to go north or south of us. have you also noticed that its wall to wall coverage of snow problems if its fell on the capital? But poor Scotland is used to it and just get on with it.
This morning we had the lightest dusting of snow for this year. Iused to love dressing up warm and go off walking in the snow. How quiet the town goes and the chance to see the little kids who have never have seen real snow play with delight!!
Sorry for going on a bit!!

thank you for answering Radiospy. im in the midlands too and we hardly get a thing anymore, not that im complaining about that, it suits me but its a shame for our kids who dont get the joy of playing in it like we used to. I remember how the drifts were so deep, now if it covers the grass we are excited about snow lol

I wonder if its as bad as the media always like to make it out to be. Like you say, Scotland just get in with it, we get a flurry and its mayhem!
Morning Julie, xx what a joke two flakes of snow or a leaf on the line and the Uk stops, well most of it, how do they manage in Russsia and Canada etc?

The last real heavy snow we had in North Wales was the early eighties when we were moving home, it was minus 26, and about 4 ft of snow we pulled our two lads up the hill to our new cottage on sledges, and when we got there the bloody water had frozen and the electric was off, we all slept in one bed to keep warm and had to use snow to make tea by putting a saucepan on the fire, funny now but god it was bloody cold and not one bit funny at the time.

I will scan a picture and send to you where the snow is as high as the land rover we had, amazing the road was like a toboggan run.
Ray - I just got charge 250 for a new consumer unit to be fitted. Was that a fair price?
Hi Theland, Is that all they did? did they have to upgrade eartning?
Stuck one wire from unit to gas pipe one metre away - and promised to send a safety certificate in the post in a few weeks. I don't understand these things.
Hi Theland, well you should get a certificate and also cetificate from the company the sparky is registered with I would normally charge about 200 for that job, so it isnt excessive, I do a lot for the council and for them I charge 170, thats cheap but I get lots of them if you don't get certificate get onto them and if no sense get onto building control at local council and ask them to look into it. I would leave it a few weeks, good luck, Ray
Cheers Ray.
