Near Salou is a large entertainment complex called Port Aventura.

It is a sort of mini Disney.

It has 3 large hotels, a huge theme park , and a large water park.

I have been there twice and stayed in one of the hotels.

I have been down into Salou a couple of times while staying in one of the Port Aventrua hotels.

It is a typical resort town with loads of hotels, lots of shops selling "kiss me quick hats", lots of bars, and a McDonalds !

Huge beach that gets absolutely packed on sunny days.

There is also a nice "prom" that is relaxing to stroll down.

I have to say I was not too impressed with the town.

La Pineada is a small resort that is almost right alongside Salou, in fact they almost run into each other.

To be honest I have not been into La Pineada but I have been on a local Salou bus that went past it so saw it briefly.

It looks nice, but quiet.

Many thanks vehelpfulguy-I`ll look at all your suggestions!
Always confuse the Costas!!
Salou council provide little land "trains" (they are like trains but run on roads). I assume they run out of season.

I dont think they come into La Pineada, but they come very close.

They are very useful for getting around Salou.

The are about three or four different routes, all circular.

It costs about 3 Euros per trip. You can stay on as long as you like, but each time you get off and on again it is another 3 Euros.

Getting on the right train can be difficult as they are not numbered so if you do use them make sure you know which train to get on to get back to La Pineada.
The most obvious place to go for a day out is Barcelona.

You can either get the train (it runs through Salou and along the coast to Barcelona) or various coach companies do trips.

Some of the coach trips visit different places, like the Barcelona football ground, the zoo and so on.

I have heard about people getting purses stolen on the train so be careful. Seems Barcelona also suffers from pickpockets and people who steal handbags so be careful if you go there.
Portaventura is always a great day out on a holiday to Salou. Barcalona is also not very far away so why not take a trip there. There is some amazing architecture in Barcalona and some great museums etc. The bars and nightlife is also really lively!
