My wife and I are taking a trip to Ireland and my Uncle and his partner are likely to join us. I was wondering how "open" in Ireland they could be about being gay.

Like any country, cities will be fine, rural areas maybe less so. If you are concerned about sleeping arrangemens, a quick call to the Tourist Information Office for the area(s) concerned should ensure the avoidance of any embarassment at hotels or guest houses.
Whatever you do don't stay in a supposedly gay-friendly guesthouse in Dublin called the Inn on the Liffey(attached to a bar called the Out on the Liffey). It's on the Liffey quays. It is a filty kip and the pub attached to it is full of junkies and other dodgy characters.
Have you ever seen Graham Norton?!
why do they need to be 'open' to begin with? Who the hell needs to know? I I see two chaps dining, travelling or sharing a room together I might suspect they're a couple, but thats where my interest ends. I think most people are the same.
