I've just returned from France where I got caught by a speed camera. Does anyone know whether or not I will be fined and whether or not you get points on your UK drivers licence??
We got zapped just outside Paris just over 2 years ago and have heard nothing although I did worry for months that we would be arrested at the check point in the ferry port as we started our next holiday.
I got caught outside Bordeux airport last Summer and nothing was ever done. I heard they are not yet efficient enough to track you down or can't be bothered. Although I was in a hire car, I would have thought they could have tracked my details through this but never heard anything, thankfully. I shouldn't worry too much.
Thanks for the answers. I read in the papers a while ago something along the lines of dzug's answer and wondered if it had come in yet. I drive the same route through France from top to bottom about three to four times a year and each time I go there seems to be a new camera at some point on the route - I don't generally drive too fast but on this occasion got caught out by a change from 130 kph to 90 kph near a crossroads. At least the french are honest with their signposting of cameras not like us in the UK.
There is a map seller on Ebay who sells a really good map book of France that has a lot of the speed cameras marked in it (properly not in biro LOL). Unfortunately I cannot recall his user name and it was 18 months ago I bought mine. Well worth the 10 it cost inc postage
