If you are a British passport holder, yes. Here is an exerpt from the Foreign and Commonwealth web site: "You must obtain a visa before travelling to India. Visas cannot be obtained on arrival. Foreign nationals arriving in India on long term multiple visas are required to register with the nearest Foreigners Regional Registration Officer within 14 days of arrival. Overstayers will be fined and may be prosecuted. For further information on entry requirements, visitors are advised to check with their nearest Indian Consulate." Yes you do. And even after you've gone through the palarver of getting the visa you will still need to fill in a little white form when you arrive at the airport, even though it clearly states on this form that you dont have to. The officials wont let you through until you have. Then they stamp it and rip a bit off and staple the remainder into your passport. Welcome to India!!!
