passports for foreign children born in England

The owner of my newsagent asked me if I could find out the following:
Her niece and her husband are of Indian nationality and have just a baby born here about 5 weeks ago. They are all three going back to India in about 4 weeks. Can they have a British passport for the baby or has the baby to be included in the parents (Indian) passport?
The internet is pretty vague on this subject.

Anybody born in the UK is entitled to British citizenship.

Sorry Tichfield, but it's no longer true that anyone born in the UK is entitled to British citizenship. See my post in the questioner's other thread:
