First Holiday abroad with baby
Hi
I had a baby in June and I'm hoping to go away in April/May 2009.
I quite fancy going to Gran Canaria, Pureto Rico. To the Amadoras Beach side. I was there a few years ago, although hilly our apartment was half way up so only a short walk down to beach (taxi back) and even shorter walk to the Europa Centre at the top of the hill for night time entertainment. As i'd be going with the baby i thought this would be a good place as there is good clean toilet facilities right next to the beach, bars and restaurants for during the day or night.
I was also thinking about Majorca or Bulgaria.
Can anyone recommend anywhere else that would be good for me, my boyfriend and the little one for our first holiday abroad, nothing to pricey.
Thanks

I would avoid long haul flights at this age for your sanity and also very hot countries. Places like Majorca may not be warm enough in April/ May though, we went in June once and it was quite chilly although we were unlucky. You could try the canary islands that should be ok. Just stop at a reasonably good quality hotel/apartments that have easy access to the beach etc. and a family friendly pool and facilities. A spacious room with air conditioning is always a bonus you don't want to be squashed in a small hot room with a pushchair and a cot! Be aware though that a holiday is never a holiday in the true sense of the word with a baby in tow!! Without sounding too negative it is hard work and very very different from holidaying as a couple! I would go for 1 week as well as you will probably have had enough by then!
see if you can get a room with balcony - so you can sit out in the sun while baby is sleeping inside. Flat ground is good if you are pushing a buggy around. Not too hot and not too noisy (you don't want baby woken up by disco music all night). No point in keeping baby indoors all day but be very careful about sun on his skin, it's very very tender. Baby probably won't be walking by then but if so you'll have to keep your eyes open for unprotected stairs and balconies and furniture with sharp angles.
Don't want to put you off but as tigwig said, it won't be like the holidays you've been used to!
