Met anyone you knew on your travels??
I have and its the strangest experience.
D and I were in Benidorm -first holiday abroad -just a young thing and we were strolling down the street and I jokingly said -see that guy -he is the dead spit of this engineer who works with us even down to the walk -well -it bleeding was him !!
I was washing dishes in a campsite in the Black Forest area -and I heard this (posh lol) Scottish accent giving it big licks. So I kept on- then thought -hey that accent is similar to mine (apart from the posh bit) -looked round -theres the Gym teacher from the High School.
So I said -youre from Blairgowrie arent you -and she was like -yeah and then I said I recognised the accent -she was absolutelty horrified that her accent was distinguishable -snobby cow.Imagine meeting someone from your hometown in deepest Black Forest and being embarassed -and no she didnt know me.:)
We went to the Vendee -picked a random site as we had our own caravan -again- in washing the dishes -theres the bloke who I was brought up with -really mad --pity his wife didnt like anyone he was brought up with but she had to sit at the pool everyday with the same swimmie on as me -silly fool -I dont know what her prob was but Gordon was fine all the time we were amazed that we ended up in the same place.
Cant think of any more offhand but surely some of you have seen someone on holiday you know -its really weird but funny !!

Was travelling "incognito" to Cyprus
(for reasons I would explain, but it's a long story)
Just imagine, fake hairpiece, coloured contacts - the full works, & a guy sat in the row behind me on the plane recognised me from my voice & mannerisms - we'd worked toghether 15 years previously !!
GUTTED !!

I travelled from Sheffield to Torquay on the overnight train, with the plan of meeting up with my parents at their hotel (where I was also going to be staying) later in the morning. That meant that I was wandering around Torquay at 6am, killing time. There aren't many people around at that time of the morning, so I was surprised to see a large group of young men also exploring the town. I was even more surprised to find the group consisted entirely of the 6th form students that I taught! (They'd come down on the same train but our paths had never crossed).
There was a fellow teacher, who taught at a school half a mile away from me, who I'd been trying to arrange a meeting with for many months, but our diaries never matched up. I finally got to speak to her when we bumped into each other - in Adelaide, South Australia!
One of our PE teachers was enjoying the tourist sites with her husband when a 12-year-old voice piped up "Hello Miss. Nice seeing you here". That was in Time Square, New York!

I've had a few though mostly here in the UK.
I made a good friend volunteering in Southport for a week.
I was coming back to Shropshire from another week volunteering there a few years later. I had to change trains at Chester and all went quiet as it was the silence on Diana's funeral day. I bumped into him who was also coming back from Wales volunteering on his way back to Glenrothes in Scotland where he's from!
Another time I was on a conference in Leeds. First time I'd been there and me and a friend got lost on the way back. A couple of girls were wandering some distance ahead of her and I heard her use a posher version of Shrewsbury where I'm from. A smiled and quietly said the other version under my breath to my friend.
I saw the girls halt then carry on and then stop again and come back towards us, was worried I was going to get battered or something until she said she remembered me from me playing the lead role in a show at junior school!?!
Considering it was dark and the show was about 15 years before was pretty amazed!

Ooh another one which went wrong (ish!).
One of my cousins and his family moved to Washington a few years ago after living all over with the RAF.
Me and my ex went to New York in August for a few days, came back and I saw NY pics on Facebook posted by my cousin's daughter!!! They were in NY for two of the same days as us and we could have walked straight past each other in the street and have all kinds of similar piccies!

I lived in Dubai and had come home for a holiday, we took the boat from Charing Cross to Hampton Court, spent the afternoon there but we were too late to go back that way, standing on the platfrom oppsite ours at Richmond station, a guy shouted hello, it was the Arabic salesman form BMW in Sharjah, we both worked there.
We went to eilat in israel about 10 years ago and occasionaly talked to a couple in the same hotel as us but only brief chatts.
When we got home my son wanted to go into romford to get a new set of strings for his guitar so we went to the guitar shop and who was behind the counter only the bloke from our hotel who we talked to he was only standing in that day as a temporary manager.
Its a small world innit posty.

My 2 experiences are a bit different but still very unusual.
1 When I was about 19 I was told by someone that I will marry someone I wouldnt have known for long. At that time I thought it was just a giggly gook as where I am from (Lahore, Pakistan) there people do marry people sometimes without knowing. 6 years later I was in Exeter first time ever only for few hours, sat next to a girl in a caf for a cup of tea, talked to her about ten minutes, liked her, left my mobile number on a tissue paper when she went to toilet with these words I was told that I would marry someone who I would hardly know, I have a feeling that it might be you. Next day she phoned, me and we got married after about 2 months. Now she is my wife of 14 years with 4 kids.
2 Got a bit lost in Fulham area and stopped to ask someone about directions it was in a dark winter evening. That person was changing the tyre of his car, he turned around and instead of telling me the direction gave me a big hug, for few seconds I was shocked before he called my name, he was my primary school class fellow about 25 years ago. Apparently he recognised my voice straight away.
