we gave our friend 300gbp to get us some fags from poland, but we only got 10 cartons of L&M back from him. Can anyone tell us if this amount is right for the amount of money we gave him? on the carton it says 7.95.. is this for 1 carton of 200 or per pack of 20?

7.95 zloty is approximately 1.74.

So, if it is per carton, you should have got 172 cartons. Per pack, 17 cartons.
So you got your cigs for 3 a pack., and your "friend" had to buy them and lug them around and bring them back for you. If you don't like it, don't ask them again, and you can pay 5.50 a pack in the local shop. BTW It does sound like your friend was a bit naughty - should have been straight with you.
It all depends on what exchange rate he got... Were you expecting more? He might have had to pay for extra luggage too (10 cartons take up a lot of space) if travelling with ryanair or easyjet.
Having evaded customs for the import of cigarettes for commercial purposes, perhaps the difference in price is explained by your friend having paid the UK Duty on the quantity over the permitted 200 cigarettes (as if).
