I'm off to NY for Christmas AND New Year. HAs anyone got any advise/tips for me. It'll be my first trip to New York

lots of things; get yourself a guidebook (there are dozens). Skating at Rockefeller Center (you can just watch if you don't want to skate; I once had Xmas dinner at the restaurant next to the rink) and the view from Top of the Rock. Ground Zero. Free ferry to Staten Island. Manhattan Circle Line trip round the island. (about 3 hours). Buggy ride round Central Park. Metropolitan Musem, also in Central Park. Modern Art Museum. Frick collection. Shops all over. Walk round areas like Greenwich Village. Broadway show (half price tickets on the day in Times Sq or South St Seaport - latter is less crowded).
Just loads to do. Cinemas and theatres should be open on Dec 25, and some shops.

Awww I'm so jealous, it's a fantastic place!
Definitely go to the top of the rockerfeller center at night when everything's lit up, costs about $20 but is sooo worth it (we did ESB by day and there at night).
Little Italy's Mulberry St is great for lunch.
The bus tours are good to get about, we walked most of it then did all three tours in one day (uptown, downtown and Brooklyn and Night). You get so much info if you get good guides, a proper NY'ers guide. They tell you where the stars live and all kind of stories.
The night tour is great as they take you to the Hulton Ferry landing to see the Manhatten skyline at night (from Brooklyn).
The Brooklyn tour also gives you chance to get off in Brooklyn and walk back over the Brooklyn Bridge.
As you can't go up the Statue of Liberty, we just took the free Staten Island Ferry there and back as you get a great view.
The funky show off of a polar bear in the little zoo in Central Park is good and if you were a Beatles fan or John Lennon fan, Strawberry Fields, the shrine to him in Central park is very thought provoking.

Service is quick and brusque but great food (and lots of it!!!).

if you really like shopping, go to the Port Authority [ dont ask me why but its the bus station] and get a ticket to Paramus[ pronounced PERAMUS] in New Jersey and go to to the Florida Garden Mall, takes about 45 mins by bus through Soprano country, fare is cheap, bus driver will tell you where to wait for the bus back, time table etc, everyone chats to you on the bus ,Its cheaper than NY and very big.
whatever you do have fun and visit Ellis Island, watch the movie [ I cried] and do the tour all guides have to be descendants of immigrants who passed through, much more intersting than the Statue of Liberty.
lucky you, have fun, if your single girls go to the Chippendales show, if you get there early all the guys come and chat to you as they arrive for work, especially if your english and they will call you a cab to go home.
