Living and Working in Canada

My boyfriend and I are looking to move from the UK to Canada in 2006. Were particularly looking to live around Vancouver. How easy is for UK citizens to get a visa? I know you have to secure a job, which we will of course do. Is it possible to look for a job over there is you are only on a tourist visa? Also any help on essentials such as setting up bank accounts, social security etc. would be greatly appreciated.
