Malta, good or bad?

Hi, thinking of going to Malta in the summer, i went there years ago and there wasn`t much there really, does anyone know what its like now and would you recommend it? Thanks.

I went a few years back and it was a place of history and religious statues everywhere. I thought it was nice as I like alot of history. It depends on what you like.

Yes it is a very religious country, my husband likes churches as he is an orthadox im a christian but not a practising one, but we will also have an 18 month old with us, so is there anything we can do as a family, like swim parks etc. Thanks

My sister has been a couple of times and likes it that much she is getting married there next year and is planning to move there eventually... so it cant be that bad really.

The beaches are rubbish besides Melliha Bay. I stayed in Bugiba and thought there was nothing there. If I went back I would stay at Sliema. My hotel was called something like San Pawl and it was awful, they kept recycling the same food everyday. It is not the best place for kids. It is more of a sightseeing holiday with the beautiful history of Valetta and another old town, think it was called Medina. The beach's around St Paul's (Bugiba) and St Julian's Bay are dirty. I never got close enough to see the sand at Melliha Bay. I went up there once but didn't get to the sand. I saw a large cathedral and that was it for that town.

I went there last year for my brother's wedding and we stayed in Sliema. I loved it and would definately go back but I don't think that there is much for children - I don't have any so I was fine!

It is more of an adults holiday, there aren't many resorts with beaches and the ones that there are, are tiny and man made.

I agree with CheekyChops - definitely a destination more for adults. Loads of historical sites if you're into that kind of thing, and Mdina ("The Silent City") is a fascinating place. Gozo's very pleasant too. Some interesting museums & similar in and around Valletta. We prefer either Gozo or the eastern end of the main island, round Marsascala - it's such a small place it's not too far to anywhere, but the traffic can be absolutely awful if you choose the wrong time of day to travel.

stay at hotel with a health spa in case you get bored, spend a day on Gozo its lovely, beware of the trip by hydrofoil to Palmero, the boat is a rust bucket and the sea gets ever so choppy coming back, evryone on board was seasick, the journey took quite as long as going and what did they do to calm the passengers down [ we all thought we were going under]- well they played over the loudspeaker the music from the film Titanic !!!!!!!!!
a week on Malta is okay, 2 weks will be boring.!

Am not long home from Malta, would never go back. I t is boring, bad beaches, scenery is nice but once you have seen one old church they all look the same. Goza was worth going over to as we had to fill in another day, We hired a car and therefore saw the whole island.
Best two things we saw on Malta were, The Popeye Village which was erected specially for the 1980 Popeye film. Robin Williams starred in it. They thought the houses etc built would all fall down but they are still standing, a great wee place. Second good thing, while out driving one evening we came across a man taking his pet tiger for a walk. Not a lot else to say about IT. Sorry Malta.
