In addition the VAT goes back to 17.5% at the end of the year. When the VAT was reduced to 15% duty was raised on fuel to negate the reduction. So we have a double whammy. You just cannot trust this government.
Taxes have to be funded from somewhere. Its not as unfair as council tax which assumes because you live in a posh street you are rich. I would prefer to pay more tax on fuel (for private cars) and no road tax. That way the more you use the roads the more you pay. high fuel cars like Ferraris would automatically pay more, instead of b*ggering about with higher road tax. And no-one would get away with paying no road tax
Gordon Brown`s a tax maniac. We wouldn`t be feeling the pinch quite so much but for all the stealth taxes & outrageous rates on other things. We are the most heavily taxed nation in Europe if not the world. The Government must love the green movement as it gives an excuse to tax new areas.
