buying food in Portugal
Hi everyone.
we are going to Portugal next week for holiday. we havnt been abroad for ages and dont have much spending money.
was just wondering where was best to buy basic groceries, like spagetti, weetabix, nappies,.. should we buy them here and pack them in suitcase, or would it be cheaper there. we are going to a place thats inland.. if that makes any odds!!
cheers

Prices at local shops and supermarkets are really good, and it's simply not worth carrying that sort of stuff.
I never pack consumables or disposables when I go to Portugal. On the day you arrive, go to the local supermarket, and stock up. You'll also pay a lot less for shampoo, sun cream, shower gel, deodorants, toothpaste etc.

It's years since I've been there but I remember that the supermarkets were very good as jayne says, and cheaper. We took a few things with us the first time we went but found that we could get everything cheaper over there so didn't bother the next time round. Enjoy your holiday - it's a beautiful country

There are a lot of chains of supermarkets in Portugal, along the same lines as Lidl, (can't rememeber the name but they are green)they are very cheap for basics and check out the frozen section as they have prawns etc...very very cheap, avoid the little local shops as they are more expensive. It is worth taking nappies as they are expensive anywhere.
