Hi everyone, we want to buy a useful going away gift for some young friends who are back packing around some of the more god forsaken parts of Europe and Asia for 6 months to a year. Is there anything we can buy them that will be of help/use to them in the travels. Obviously it can't be too big as they're only taking a couple of rucksacks. Thanks everyone. (also posted in travel)
When a friend went away for a year, with only a rucksack, the gift I got for her was a "ZanzaClick" which is a tiny little gadget for insect bites - you put it on the bite and click it, and miraculously the bite stops itching and goes away. Boots the chemist, or a travel supplies shop sell them. I think it was about 6 ish. I always have one in my bag during the insect biting season.
When I went travelling the most useful things I had were a swiss army knife and a travel towel - the ones that dry quickly are very thin and are really absorbent.
What about a back pack protector? They look abit like a string bag - stops anyone getting into them
Not a useful gift but when my sister went to Australia to finish the last part of her nurse training in the outback I bought her a St Christopher pendent just so that she knew we were thinking of her whilst she was out there and to hopefully make her feel a bit safer whilst being so far away. I felt it was bit different to the usual and it didn't take up any room in her backpack :o)
