things to do in York

Hi there - I am trying to book a long weekend for a group of friends. Not set anywhere in particular but were thinking a train ride away from Glasgow (not too far). Was looking for somewhere with plenty to see and do in the day time (touristy) but with nice restaurants/bars for the evening and hopefully one night maybe visit a night club/disco. From looking at various sites there is obviously plenty to be doing daytime in York but can anyone give advice on evening?

York offers everything from english, indian, chinese, meditteranean, mexican italian, spanish and fish, restuarants that can be as quaint and quite to as loud and lively as you like. there are plenty of traditional old english pubs to uber trendy wine bars, nightclubs are plenty but depends on your taste, but if you ask any of the bouncers outside any of the pubs they'll point you in the right direction. there is a pub near the old shambles called the roman bath (i think) that have live bands on friday and saturday nights, if you drop lucky they have some really good ones on. me and my husband and friends go up to York several weekends a year and have NEVER come back disappointed and to this day have never seen any trouble either. I'm sure you'll have a fab time........plus it has loads of fantastic shops too. :)

York is also very easy during the day - big enough to be interesting but small enough for a leisurely walk around without the need for hiking boots! Museums, cafes, bars, markets, shops, riverboats, the works!

I've lived in YORK 2 and half years now and wouldn't live anywhere else I think.
There is always something to do. The museums are good and there is usually something going on in the streets in the main town as well.
At night, there are so many restaurants to chose from and most of the bars and pubs are really good.
There will be something for all of you to enjoy x
