Complete and utter rip off!
Myself, hubby and our daughter are going to Lanzarote in 3 weeks with Jet 2. I thought today what a good idea it would be to check in online. So I went through the process of checking in hubby and he was allocated his seat. When I checked in myself I noticed it had given me a completely different seat so I didn't go ahead and when I checked our daughter's seat she wasn't even going to be sat with us! She is 5. I immediately phoned their call centre and was on the phone for 45 minutes at 10p per minute begging them to allow us to sit together. The supervisor said he couldn't do this as hubbys seat was allocated. He was willing to sit me and our daughter together for an additional charge of �6.99 each. When looking at the seat plan there is tons of seats available and if we had just turned up at the airport we would almost certainly being sat together like we always do without paying any extra. I mean there's only 3 of us for gods sake. I have just written a letter to them hoping they can do something about it as I am pregnant and would need hubbys support in supervising our daughter. Sorry for the rant but I am livid. Do you think they will help me or is it just a case of tough sh*t and learn from this experience never ever check in online with them again?

When my youngest was a toddler I took him overseas on a trip with me. I refused to pay this ridiculous charge and told them at the check-in desk that I wasn't bothered about sitting with my son and I would be perfectly happy for the air stewards to take care of him for the entire flight.
They sharpish gave us seats together - without the extra charge.

Thats what I was thinking!! The only upgrade if any, would be to extra legroom seats and as these are in the emergency exit aisles then me being pregnant and having a 5yr old would not meet their criteria.
I just hope they can sort this out at the airport but if not I will sit on my own and have a peaceful flight hopefully!

I agree with the anger expressed in this thread and would like to add some spice to the debate - I believe it is a legal requirement for airlines to seat minors with a parent! So, not only is their attempt to charge you to sit with your 5 year old son completely unacceptable, I believe it breaks aviation rules!! Why don't you query this with them? I don't think they have a leg to stand on.

You are experiencing the joys of booking with a low cost airline!! You are likely to experience a case of tough s**t as you suggest.They probably would re-allocate you all at the airport if you want BUT you will almost certainly pay for the pivilage.
The art in using any low cost airline is:
Expect nothing in the way of customer service
Read all the terms carefully before booking
Be methodical when booking
Expect to pay (a lot) for any requests or changes
