This is a mini Disney type complex with 4 hotels, a fantastic theme park and water park.

Anyone can visit the theme park or water park.
I have stayed at one of the Port Aventura hotels and enjoyed it.
However I walked down into Salou and did not enjoy it.
Street after street of boring hotels, a large beach, but packed with people.
Lots of pubs and bars selling English food and drink.
And a McDonalds right on the sea front (which was packed).

Stayed at a campsite there 20 years ago. Funfair near beach no longer there..Made a return visit recently for a long weekend.Old Spanish side of town is nice.Tourist side is hotels and British bars.Found prices expensive now.Mainline train runs through centre of town.
There is a fountain/ lightshow near the beach every night at around 9pm.

Salou has good points and bad points. As others have said Port Aventura is very good. Its also very good for sightseeing in the local area. You will be close to Barcelona which is a very interesting city. Tarragona is quite close and has lots of roman ruins including an ampitheatre. If you are religious or into nature you might want to visit Montserrat monestary. Salou's bad points are tacky shops and rude local people who make it very obvious that they don't like British tourists.
