With regards to travel to the US and criminal records information, there seems to be some confusion as to what the americans can find out and what they cant. Is there an official government body I could ask to find out? I believe that since Jan this year instead of a piece of paper on the plane over there you now have to fill out an online form three days before travel. Does anyone know? Many many thanks

If they are so minded and with good cause they can find anything out by asking for it, but routine criminal records are not shared automatically. Immigration records (stolen, forged passports and wanted criminals) are shared.

Yes you do now have to fill in an online form - at the moment it's as well as the paper one on the plane. Google ESTA for details.
Ask UK immigration what information they share with their US counterparts - that's the official government body
