Carcassonne to Nimes
2 Answers
We are staying in Carcassonne for six weeks and having a great time, fancy a trip to Nimes. Is it worth an overnight stay or can you see all you need to in a day (if we stay any cheap hotel recommendation would be helpful). Travelling by train by the way, so does anyone know if it is much cheaper to book our tickets in advance as in Britain.

It's a bit of a hike by rail as from carcassone you will have to change at Narbonne - you can check train times and costs at http://www.raileurope.co.uk/ but to be honest you would find it very simple to just buy a ticket at the station (use your plastic for convenience). The area around Nimes station is a bit lary as the junkies congregate there but a quick walk straight ahead brings you into the centre.
There seems to be a public bus from Nimes bus station (I think adjacent the railway station) to Pont du Gard, which is a phenomenal visit. If you like your history. Journey about 45 mins. So staying somewhere in the middle of Nimes would make it all easier for you.
