my computer won't play m2ts video files
7 Answers
Hi All
Got a prob I am hoping someone more computer minded can help me with.
Have a Sony Vaio vgn-a215z laptop comp running windows Xp Home edition with service pack 2 (comp is 4 yrs old)
Just bought a Panasonic TZ7 digital camera which can also make hi-def video clips which according to the instruction manual records in AVCHD Lite/Quick Time Motion Jpeg format.
Ive made a couple of videos which i have loaded onto my comp with the intention of then putting them on facebook.
the camera came with software which i have used to load the videos onto my comp, the software is called PhotofunStudio, also included was the latest QuickTime software.
I have saved the video clips in "My Videos" and also the PhotofunStudio saves a copy. In PhotofunStudio the video clips play back no problems but the ones I have saved in "My Videos" will not play. The files in "My Video" are saved in m2ts format which Quick Time does not recognize and which Windows Media player will not play either. I have tried using the "open file with" search facility but it comes up with nothing.
My question is how can I play the m2ts videos on my comp? Do i need to convert them to Jpeg? why is my camera not recording the images or loading them onto the comp as a Jpeg video like the book says it is meant to? Do I have to download add-ons to my media players?
Many Thanks

M2TS files generated by AVCHD camcorders can't be directly recognized by WMP, QuickTime, RealPlayer, etc. Surely you can search for M2TS codec for Windows Media Player, but converting M2TS files to popular video formats allows you to not only play M2TS videos on computer, but also play M2TS on PSP, PS3, Xbox 360, mobile phone, YouTube, etc.
Free download M2TS Player, install and launch it.
1. Click "Add File" button to input the M2TS videos you want to play.
2. Open "Profile" combo box and choose the output format as you want. For example, choose H.264 MP4 Video to best keep the original quality and playable on PS3. choose WMV for playback on Windows Media Player and Xbox 360. Click "Settings" button to adjust video and audio encoding settings.
3. Click "Browse" to set output path.
4. Click "Start" to start converting videos.
After the conversion, you will get videos in designated format, so that you can freely watch the M2TS videos on computer or on diverse portable players. M2TS Player also provides powerful editing functions to help you edit M2TS videos by trimming, cropping, merging, adjusting effect, and so on.

I have just using VLC to play my mts files. Nowadays with the release of Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac, i just use it to convert my files to MOV, AVI, MP4, etc format for playing on Mac. Or merge my mts files without conversion for burning to Blu-ray and playing with BD player.
