my daughter has her school prom in a couple of weeks and we've been looking at hiring a limo. some of the parents have backed out (mostly the really well-off ones!) saying it's too expensive, so now it's really quite expensive to split between the 5 that are left.

I considered presenting myself at the local fire station to see if they'd take them in a fire engine but, a) they may tell me off for being so stupid, b) they may not be legally covered for such thing and c) they may have a proper emergency come the event!

does anyone have any ideas please?

Hire a tractor, pulling a cart with bales of hay, all sitting on the hay.
I think they wanted something different from the normal school run sqad :)
Hows about a pony & trap. Not literally though (rhyming slang)
chuck...LOL
I actually think sqad's tractor idea is a good one.
Of course, fine weather is called for - not something one can guarantee. But they can always wear raincoats, use brollies etc....

legal transport would be great.. sitting on bales of hay? lol!

I can only find horse and carriage hire for weddings, so it's pretty pricey :o/
What about a skip..!
Actually joking aside, the tractor isn't a bad idea.

I can't find anywhere round your area that hires tanks I'm afraid.
I think daughters demand something a little more elegant than tractors

mazie, thank you.. lol!
Nice avatar Sara, preferred the other one though
In your question, you used the word" imaginative".....then be "imaginative"........!!
Google 'prom horse and carriage' and you find a huge choice.
One boy went to his prom in a helicopter, but it was a big flop because the helicopter could not land near the school so nobody saw him arrive.
There are companies that hire period vehicles, how about a period fire engine or ambulance or a period hearse.... good for kids with Goth tendencies not that they'd be going to a prom I suppose
yes sqad, but she is a girl. Can you not imagine something (I was going to say pink and fluffy but that sounds wrong) Girlie?
mazie...NO. ;-)
Whereabouts do you live? Is there a playing field nearby? How many kids want to go? How much are the parents willing to part with?

I may have some ideas for you

razza, thanks.. perhaps I'll change it back ;o)
mamya, not in the tiny dress she's wearing!
Sqad, fair point.. arghhhhhh!
hc and rowan, thank.. will google.

I rang the local farm, and when she'd stopped laughing she said there were all sorts of insurance reasons that would prevent them. ahh well... !
Hi sara,

I have the very same scenario for my eldest son, beginning of July though, so not in two weeks time, as your daughter has........He has asked his friends and they seem to going the limo route....but they may decide to MAKE their own limo out of who knows what....paint it etc.... and arrive with their 8 or so pairs of feet inside it and make their grand entrance.....i think it's a great idea.....can just see them shuffling up the drive on the night.....lol

Fire crews would normally be more than happy to help you in this instance, my lovely, so dont be worried about them saying your stupid........even if they have an emergency at the exact time your daughter and her friends need to be dropped off, they may be able to send a small crew to help out anyway. Ask them first and see what they say.

Hope it all goes brilliant on the night for your daughter, sara, and she has a smashing memory of the occasion.....and make sure her and her friends take stacks of photos's.
