French Tolls

To avoid queuing at the Toll Plazas in France there is a pass which you can get, an electronic badge, read at dedicated lanes which then charges the toll to your visa card. There's also a 30 Euro deposit. Does anyone know if there is an alternative system for fast tracking through the toll plazas? Maybe a monthly set-up more suited to holidaymakers?

I think that the answer to your question is 'No' but my French isn't up to much. (That's not surprising - we did Spanish, rather than French at school!).

The 'telepeage' system is operated by SANEF. If your French is better than mine, you should be able to get a definitive answer to your question here:

trouble is you still have to queue to reach the bit where you either pay with cash or debit/credit card, or use your telepeage. paying by card is usually quicker and there are generally more lanes dedicated to card payment. just shove the card in and it pops straight out again having registered the card details, there's no waiting for the person in the booth to tell you how much it is, handing the cash over, waiting for change, waiting for the person to lift the barrier. they all accept british credit/debit cards now, as do the vast majority of card-only fuel lanes in french garages.
as far as i'm aware there's no other way to pay. we travel quite extensively in france.

"Liber-t" operated by SANEF does not appear to transfer to those routes operated by Paris-Rhin-Rhone, Cofiroute, Autoroutes du Sud or SAPN (Normandy).

I now think what fergusmca meant was just for an occasional month and not monthly. So that would correspond to Vinci télépeage temps libre @ 2€ a month (if you haven't used your badge in a particular month you don't pay).

To subscribe to the Liber-T system for French peage you will need a French bank account. Most have a service charge of around 2 euros a month and/or a deposit on the 'doofer' a bit like the Dart Tag only larger. One exception to this is Alis which is free and debits your French bank account http://www.alis-sa.co...ffres/badgelibert.php They operate one or two sections of peage and you can get a discount for using their own peage but it works on all peage
