Having spent considerable time in queues to pay road tolls in cash in France, I was wondering how easy it is to pay by credit card where the queues are much shorter. Do you have to pre-register a card or can you just use your credit card as you would when making a payment in a shop, etc?
I have been too nervous to go to the card payment queue in case my card would not be accepted.
Any advice would be appreciated.

They accept Visa and Mastercard just like payment in a shop. Don't think they take American Express though.
Not really just like a shop - you don't sign or enter a PIN, they just swipe.

Very easy
dzug, I meant it was just as easy as a shop, using roger's expression.
You put your card in , if you want a receipt you press the button, you take your card out and away you go.
We used the credit card section when we were in France earlier this month, just stuck our card in the slot, pressed for a receipt - and the barrier lifted.

No problems. Chox.
british cards didn't used to be accepted at tolls or card-only petrol stations but for the last few years they're accepted everywhere. it's very quick to use the card payment machine, literally just shove it in and it pops out almost immediately if you don't want a receipt. this year is the first year we used our card to pay tolls, we used a debit card and it was fine.
