yet another camping question

When you go camping on a site with other people dont you just go out for the day and come back to find all your stuff nicked or Im I wrong?

Do people put little locks on the zipps when in theory you could just unpeg to get in the tent. Would and lock be a deterrant?

usually when camping it's p!ssing down so hard that people can't be bothered to rob you as they'd get too wet.............

We put a padlock on the entrance door of the inner tent.
It would stop anyone determined enough but might discourage some. Although I've never experienced anyone claiming to have been robbed at a pukka camp-site.

No. If someone really wants to get in they'll just run a knife down one side. A mate of mine set up at Glasto one year... we returned to his tent late one night to find everything gone, and I mean absolutely everything. What made it worse was someone had pitched in the space where his tent had been lol...

yes campings not for everyone I dont blame people for thinking camping is odd... it is....I think it is partly escapism well thats the attractive factor fo me I try and get out of mobile signal range, toast marshmellows, and Sugar in a hole with a stag looking on...

I agree with snags, don't put a lock on your tent.

The only difference a lock will make is you'll find your stuff stolen and your tent cut to bits rather than just your stuff stolen.

I don't leave anything of real value in the tent - that stuff gets loaded into the car. If anyone wants to sleep in a 2nd hand sleeping bag or wear my dirty laundry then that's up to them! Generally I think that proper campsites are fairly safe as everyone is in the same position as you and there has to be an element of trust.

I have yet to be robbed on any campsite that I have stayed at, I have never locked my tent either but having said that when I go camping I take very little with me a tent a sleeping bag and some clothes. I cant be bothered with all the paraphernalia that a lot of people take with them, so even if someone wanted to rob me they wouldn't find anything worth stealing anyway.....

If you put a lock on your tent you are making it look like you have something to steal. Leave it closed and with nothing of value inside just in case.

It's never happened to me in my 47 years of camping experience.
It's common sense - don't leave 'valuables' in your tent (eg. wallets, car keys, ipods, mobile phones, cameras etc.)

Who takes valuables camping...
Compass, camera and binoculars one usually takes - those I consider valuables on a camping trip and one usually take along with them where ever they go.

Campers are pretty honest for the most part, but Annie's advice is good. Just don't leave anything valuable in your tent. Even better, if you don't really need it for the holiday, then don't take it in the first place.
