There are many waterbuses which run at leas every 30 minutes, you can catch a waterbus to the main part of Venice, and if you go to the Mestre stop on the Grand Canal you can get a bus or train easily from there. There is a main ticket office where they all speak English, so you shouldnt have any problems. We went to Verona by train for the day (which is about 1.5 hours by train) and that went through the mestre, as did our bus laid no by Ryan Air which went from the Mestre bus stop.Verona is good for a day out, saw Juliets house, and went up a really high tower. Or there is Padua which is the next major town to Venice.Plenty of things to do!!
