Do you reckon that we can take a smallish package of fairy lights onto a plane and not in hand luggage?
I know you cant take xmas crackers etc, but surely, lights would be ok?
cheers!

Each airline will have its own rules but those will be framed around the standard IATA regulations. Take a look on the airline's website to check, but I've never heard of any restrictions on the carriage of electrical items in checked baggage. Here, for example, are Ryanair's rules:

However it would be sensible to leave your bag unlocked, with the fairy lights packed on top of everything else, so that the item can be quickly checked if it causes any concerns when the baggage is scanned.

many thanks to you both for the very interesting links! brilliant.
Just what i needed to know.

I am surprised that I can take a lighter + mini latop + camcorder too.
great, many thanks x pusskins
Pusskin what part of the globe are you traveling to that doesn't sell fairy lights? If in doubt and you really need them then send them ahead through the post. As buenchico said do your research whether they can be carried with you as a security alert, full search and missed flight often offends!

Relative moved to spain a couple of years ago, wondered if they'd like them too!
(bbq lights)Their just different and rather nice.
Now were wondering whether to take a gamble on taking them with us on board.

small box, 120 lights
Probably obvious but don't forget an adaptor (unless they've got some)
like I said use a parcel delivery service and the money you spend will be buying you peace of mind too.

thank you --
we will remember adaptor, and not keen on forwarding the lights on by post, so not sure yet what to do. Will chew it over tomorrow after I have a long hard read again in that link!
Thanks so much for answers x

sorry being a pain, but i'm sure I'll ask more questions in the next few days. lol
I would DHL them out if they are that 'unique' and save yourself the hassle - just mark the parcel fragile and glass.....

If you carry them onto the flight, I bet you will light up the journey!
Not sure why there should be a problem in hold luggage. I take an electric curling brush with me on hols all the time and people pack travelling irons, toasters, all sorts of electrical goods.

hi dt. I dont think their unique really, but they are nice though. ha ha.

I always get panicky when going on a flight, and always think the worse things can happen.
thank you all for caring x

Hi Prudie, yes, I read about the hair irions and stuff, and thought that the tiny package of lights would be ok to carry in my hand! They are LED lights by the way.
